Holiday Social & End of Year Message

The Holiday dinner was a success!  We had some very creative gifts.  Mugs with maps, t-shirts, earth calendars and some interesting GIS cookies (Gingerbread Information System).  We have such a great group of women here in Houston!

Thanks to donations from all of you, we were able to give $180 to Goodfellows Charity fund. SWIGGIS-Houston is the contributor.  The Goodfellows article is featured daily during December and always highlights a local family in need during the holidays and includes recent contributors.  The program has a long history here in Houston — https://secure.chron.com/ads/ads_g/goodfellows/html/history.html

3 main issues I want to let you all know about:

  1. We have many members that signed up at GIS Day.  I will be inviting them to events starting in January.  We have not put a meeting together yet, but a member,  has volunteered to give a talk on history of GIS from her perspective.  Punch cards and tapes, it should be interesting!
  2. We also have a proposed GIS Scholarship program starting.  One member is putting that together.
  3. For membership dues, I have a volunteer wanting credits for her GISP, that has offered to set up our non-profit status.  This is great news, because then we can start accepting $ and promote our scholarship fund.

Thanks to all of you for your support.   Have a wonderful and blessed Holiday season!
